Class policies:  1.  There are no refunds for class fees unless we have to cancel.  We
will attempt to reschedule and classes that are canceled. If a class is unable to meet
due to weather, we will make every effort to reschedule for a similar time.   2.  If you are
not satisfied with any class that you take at Gate City Yarns, we hope that you will let  
Tina know ASAP!  3.  Payment  must be received before your place is held in are filled.  
4.  We will allow you to substitute someone in your place is you are unable to make a
class. Substitutions can only be made for the entire series of classes.  5.  Instructors do

Spinning, Weaving, Felting, and
Dyeing
Intro to Spinning Wheel
Instructor:  Tina Feir

This class teaches all that you need to  make
yarn using a spinning wheel.  The class starts
with understanding your structure finishing up
with spinning yarn using a worsted and semi-
worsted method.  All materials included with
class price.  Spinning wheels are available
for rent on a weekly basis so you do NOT
have to own a spinning wheel to take this
class!  Spinning wheel are provided with
class.  They are available for rent for practice
at home!

We will arrange a class that works for
your schedule just let us know you are
interested!
Classes
Intro to Hand Spinning
Instructor:  Tina Feir
This is a great way to get a taste of hand spinning
without going all in.  The discussion of fiber types is
valuable to any fiber artist.   Roving and spindle are
included with the class fee!

Class Dates: New dates will be in Feb/ March
of 2012.  Tina will be having hand surgery in
January

INTRO  TO  RH  WEAVING
Instructor:  Timmie Ballard

Learn to warp, dress, tie on, plain weave
and fringing to finish your piece.  Also use
of lift sticks and hemstitching will be
demonstrated.
Tools needed:  calculator &  scissors.

Class dates: Saturday  March 3rd and
10th
1:00 to 4:00 PM
Cost: $65

Looms are available to use with class for
no charge; however there is a $20 rental if
you would like to take the loom home
between classes.  You may used your own
loom, but it must be dropped off by

Third Saturday Felting Classes
Instructor: Victoria Clegg


Felting is one of the most amazing processes in the art
world.  Watch the fiber transform, shape and blossom into
something entirely different from its original state.  We
make felting a creative experience that will inspire many
projects to come!  All of these classes are easy enough for
beginners, yet engaging enough to be taken multiple times
with infinite possibilities.  

Please note that felting classes require the ability to stand
for long periods of time.

Vessels, Bowls and Vases Oh My!
Saturday, January 21, 201              Time: 10a-5p
If you like working with ceramics, this is a neat class to
learn to work with fibers in a similar way. Create textures,
layers and unique vase shapes with the fiber. Bring 2-3
towels with you and a plastic bag for transporting your item
home.

Wet Felted Tote Bag
Saturday, February 18, 2012           Time: 10a-5p

We’ll form layers and with water, soap and rolling to create
a bag. Then we’ll add all kinds of great embellishments
and designs. The result will be a bag as beautiful as it is
practical.  Bring 2-3 towels with you and a plastic bag for
transporting your item home.

Nuno Felted Scarf
Saturday, March 17, 2012        Time: 10a-5p
We’ll choose from beautiful hand dyed silk, choose our
fibers and have fun. This class is a wet felting process that
is a fun exercise for creativity and the body! Bring 2-3
towels with you and a plastic bag for transporting your item
home.

Bird Pod
Saturday, April 21, 201                Time: 10a-5p
Participants will create solid felted form sculpture with
various dimensional surface design elements. We will
discuss, plan, construct, and felt. Students should come
prepared with several images of inspiring 3 dimensional
form, and a sense of adventure.

Landscape Painting
Saturday, May 19, 2012    Time: 10a-5p
Using wool fiber, Victoria will guide participants in creating
beautiful felted landscapes. Participants will bring images
of landscapes that they have either taken themselves, or
borrowed from another source. These images will be used
as a source of inspiration for laying out a loose
composition composed of wool fibers. The fibers will then
be wet felted using traditional nomadic techniques to
create a "canvas".  Bring 2-3 towels with you and a plastic
bag for transporting your item home.

Cost:  $85 materials are billed separately and
can vary based on personal tastes

Felting classes are long days.  There are no
formal break times, but there is always for
picking up a take out lunch from one of
downtowns many restraunts.  There is also a
refridgerator and microwave available it you
choose to bring your food.
