Classes
Class policies:  1.  There are no refunds for class fees unless we have to cancel.  We
will attempt to reschedule and classes that are cancelled. If a class is unable to meet
due to weather, we will make every effort to reschedule for a similar time.   2.  If you are
not satisfied with any class that you take at Gate City Yarns, we hope that you will let
Carl or Tina know ASAP!  3.  Payment  must be received before your place is held in
class.  Our class generally have waiting lists and we want to make sure that all places
are filled.  4.  We will allow you to substitute someone in your place is you are unable
to make a class. Substitutions can only be made for the entire series of classes.  5.  
Instructors do not make administrative policy for Gate City Yarns any such questions
should be addressed to Carl or Tina.  
Beginning Crochet  
Learn all the crochet
basics in this two part
class.  Understand the
difference between
crochet in the round and
flat crochet.  Put it all
together in several great
projects.

Introduction to Knitting
Trying to quit a bad habit and need something to keep yourself focused? Trying to reconnect with
your heritage? Wanting to learn a new art form? Come Cast On some stitches.  In this class you
will learn to cast on, knit, purl, ribbing, basic decreases, casting off and even how to do stripes.  
Get you on your merry way to happy and confident knitting.  We will laugh through every hiccup
together. When you leave
class you should have a nice Stocking cap to call your own as your very first
completed project.  Materials not included with this class.
Class dates: Thursdays 4/16, 23 & 30 7-9pm or Sundays 5/9,16 & 23 2-4pm

Advanced Concepts in Rigid Heddle
Weaving: Warp and Weft Techniques
Explore patterning with color and texture using
pick up sticks to manipulate warp and weft
threads.  Take your weaving to a new level.  
Participants need to be able to weave
independently on a rigid heddle loom.  
Participants need to bring their looms with a
practice warp ready to weave.  This is a
technique class.  
Class Dates:  Saturday 4/10 10-1pm

Knitting and Crochet
Spinning and Weaving
General Wed. Night Knitting  
This is the only class that you can work on
any project that you have at your own pace
and have all of your questions answered.  
This class meets the first and third
Wednesdays for 3 months.
Class Dates:  Remaining dates for
Session 1:  2/3, 2/17, 3/3, and 3/17  (fees
are prorated for the remainder of session 1)
 
Session 2:
4/7, 4/21, 5/5, 5/19, 6/2, 6/16.

Rigid Heddle Weaving
This is the best introduction to weaving
that you will find anywhere!  This class
will allow you to gain a basic
understanding of weaving on a rigid
heddle loom.  Looms are available for
rent or bring your own.  A not to miss
class!
Class Dates:  3/20 and 3/27 1-4 pm
Cost:  $65  materials included
(Loom rental $20)
Fiber Prep
From raw wool to finished product.  This class will discuss how to ready raw wool for use.  We will
discuss and use drum carder, hand cards, combs, and flickers.  We will discuss use of these tools
for prepping fiber for spinning and felting.  We will also discuss using these tools for blending
materials or color.

Plying Rules and Rule-Breakers
Takes plying your yarn beyond just twisting
together two z singles in the s direction.  Learn
all of the tricks to ply "correctly"  for a balanced
yarn.  Then learn all of the ways that you can
create wonderfully fun yet functional yarns.  
Learn how to ply to maintain color changes in
hand painted rovings.
Participants should be able to spin a yarn and
adjust a spinning wheel independently to take
this class.

Swallowtail Shawl KAL with Denise
Knit this beautiful shawl while learning how to
read and work from a chart, knit nupps, add
beads to your knitting, bind-off for a stretchy
edge and block knitted lace.   This is the
perfect opportunity to knit this beautiful shawl.

Intro to Spinning Wheel
This class teaches all that you need to  
make yarn using a spinning wheel.  
The class starts with understanding
your spinning wheel and moves on to
basic yarn structure finishing up with
spinning yarn using a worsted and
semi- worsted method.  All materials
included with class price.  Spinning
wheels are available for rent on a
weekly basis so you do NOT have to
own a spinning wheel to take this
class!  
Spinning wheel are provided
with class.  They are available for rent
for practice at home!
